RE: Ratification Procedure
Sisters and Brothers, Since April 13 the bargaining committee has been traveling the province with the goal of ensuring that every member of the bargaining unit has an opportunity to hear from the committee and to exercise their legal right to vote on the proposed new collective agreement.
In addition to local meetings, the committee felt that it was important that new employees who are still in training classes also have the opportunity to learn about the collective agreement, and to exercise their voting right. Read More...

Brothers and Sisters,

CEP Local Officers Review Proposed New Collective Agreement
On February 24th and 25th, the CEP bargaining committee met in caucus with CEP delegates from BTS local unions across Ontario to review a proposed replacement collective agreement.

This unusual circumstance of mid-term negotiations was created by Bell Canada’s decision to invest heavily in the new IPTV (FibeTV) market in Ontario and Quebec, and their stated preference to give this work to BTS rather than to other non-union contractors.

In September 2010, Bell announced that they would be sending the FTTH (Fibre to the Home) work to a third party contractor rather than BTS.
This was very bad news for everyone at BTS because, even though Fibre and IPTV may be a small part of our work today, it will grow dramatically over time.
Bell’s stated reason was that, while the service we provide Bell is top-notch, our scheduling restrictions will make it difficult for them to serve their future customers on the days and times they need us – increasingly on weekends. Read More...
