CLC Lobbying Campaign

Sisters and Brothers,

The Canadian Labour Congress, in cooperation with their affiliates which includes the CEP, has launched a lobbying campaign to make sure that labour's demands for dealing with the economic crisis are heard by MPs across the country as the minority government prepares its budget for January 27, 2009.

The CEP fully supports the economic stimulus and job creation package demanded by the CLC:

1. Major public investment in infrastructure development; and Made-in-Canada procurement policies;
2. New government-supported strategies and investments to save jobs in forestry, manufacturing, and automotive sectors; and renegotiation of NAFTA;
3. More protection of workers' pensions and enhanced Old Age Security benefits;
4. Increased access to Employment Insurance and worker training programs;
5.Maintenance of equalization and other transfer payments to provinces and cities for public infrastructure, public services and social programs.

Please encourage your locals and their members and activists to write or visit their MPs by JANUARY 20, 2009 to pressure the government to take into account labour's demands in the budget package.  The CEP National website at: http://www.cep.ca/campaigns/coalition_campaign/09_budget_e.html has more information on the campaign, including a button members can click on to send an automatic direct message to their MP; a sample press release and op-ed piece; and a link to the "Get Real! It's the Economy - Make it Work for Us" full campaign on the CLC website.
