BARGAINING REPORT #5 BELL TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS Published: May 7, 2009
Print

Sisters and Brothers, Even though we had been bargaining for 10 days, it wasn't until yesterday, on the day the contract expired, that we finally received the full package of contract demands from BTS.
As expected, their package is full of demands for concessions.
We again told BTS that we have no intention of engaging in concessionary bargaining.
We demand a fair contract that represents our true value to Bell Canada, a contract that provides significant improvements in wages, benefits, and seniority rights.
Today we began the conciliation process with the assistance of Provincial Conciliation Officer, Denise Small.
We have agreed to meet with the Company for conciliation in Ottawa for two weeks beginning on May 25.
We intend to work very hard to resolve all of the outstanding issues during those weeks, and, in order to keep the pressure on the Company, informed them that we have set a firm deadline of June 6th to reach a settlement.
In the weeks following the deadline, we will be meeting with the membership across Ontario to conduct a vote. During those meetings we will be asking you either to vote on a new collective agreement, or to provide the bargaining committee with a strike mandate if we aren't able to get a fair contract offer by the deadline.
The bargaining committee for Quebec Region will be in Ottawa during the same weeks, and have set the same deadline for settlement.
Bargaining will soon be reaching a critical stage; it is imperative that we maintain our solidarity. Please ensure the Company knows that you are prepared to fight for the contract that you deserve.
In solidarity, Your Bargaining Committee Jim Fling, Shawn Cowan, Sam Snyders, Sean Howes
