December 3, 2010
As you may be aware, there is an arbitration underway in which an Arbitrator is reviewing the Home Dispatch Policy. In particular, the CEP is asserting before the Arbitrator that the Collective Agreement requires the Company to pay employees for all work before their scheduled start time, including logging in procedures, vehicle checks, and travel time between home and first job, and likewise at the conclusion of your shift.

Please be advised Published: November 25, 2010
Print Please Be Advised: It has come to Local 1996's attention that a new directive regarding home dispatch has been implemented, and management officials have been aggressively approaching technicians to comply with this directive. Threats have been made towards technicians suggesting that failure to follow this new directive will result in the loss of home dispatch rights. Local 1996 does not agree with this new mandatory policy and are asking members to comply with the directive when instructed to do so by their manager, then request to speak with a union representative to discuss options.
It has also come to the Local's attention that on our most recent pay cheque, members have not been paid in accordance with the collective agreement and the requirement for holiday pay. The Local is suggesting you bring this to the attention of your immediate supervisor for resolution. Should you encounter any delay in this correction, once again you should seek the help of a union representative to assist and provide direction for the next course of action.
If you have questions regarding any of these issues, approach your manager and place a request to speak to your union rep.
In solidarity,
Sam Snyders Local 1996 President Ontario Bargaining Representative Read More...

Print November 9, 2010 Memorandum
To all employees
Subject: Remembrance Day
Last week, an Arbitrator granted the CEP’s policy grievance pertaining to the application of the Remembrance Day holiday in Ontario. As a result of this decision, BTS will provisionally recognize Remembrance Day as a general holiday entitlement for Ontario-based employees in 2010 pursuant to the Canada Labour Code (“Code”) and not as a negotiated benefit to be included in and applied according to the Collective Agreement.

Print Most of these photos were taken by Sam Snyders of CEP Local 1996, with contributions from Barb Dolan, Sandra Gemmel and Russ Stewart. After what started as a peaceful march by approx. 30,000 trade unionists, NGOs and other organizations, Sam was taking pictures at Queens Park and was hit across back of the shoulders by a baton weilding police officer. Sam was not disturbing the peace, only taking pictures.
